The Gita · Chapter 4

Bhagavad Gita 4.16

किं कर्म किमकर्मेति कवयोऽप्यत्र मोहिताः। तत्ते कर्म प्रवक्ष्यामि यज्ज्ञात्वा मोक्ष्यसेऽशुभात्॥

kiṁ karma kim akarmeti kavayo ’pyatra mohitāḥ tat te karma pravakṣhyāmi yaj jñātvā mokṣhyase ’śhubhāt

Translation

"What is action, what inaction"? Even the wise are herein perplexed. Therefore I will declare to thee the action by knowing which thou shalt be loosed from evil.

What it means

What is action? What is inaction? Even the wise are confused here. Krishna names the difficulty before resolving it. Action's true nature is genuinely subtle, not a slogan.

Try this today

Krishna admits the category problem is genuinely hard before resolving it - honest teaching about a subtle subject.

Something to reflect on

Which action in my life right now can I honestly not classify - right, wrong or avoidance?
