Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 4

Bhagavad Gita 4.17

कर्मणो ह्यपि बोद्धव्यं बोद्धव्यं च विकर्मणः। अकर्मणश्च बोद्धव्यं गहना कर्मणो गतिः॥

karmaṇo hyapi boddhavyaṁ boddhavyaṁ cha vikarmaṇaḥ akarmaṇaśh cha boddhavyaṁ gahanā karmaṇo gatiḥ

Translation

It is needful to discriminate action, to discriminate unlawful action, and to discriminate inaction; mysterious is the path of action.

What it means

One must understand action, wrong action, and inaction; deep is the path of action. Three categories, and each can masquerade as another. Discernment must be trained specifically, not assumed.

Try this today

Three separate judgments: doing, doing wrong, and not doing - each can masquerade as another.

Something to reflect on

What am I calling 'doing nothing' that is actually a choice with consequences?
