The Gita · Chapter 4

Bhagavad Gita 4.2

एवं परम्पराप्राप्तमिमं राजर्षयो विदुः। स कालेनेह महता योगो नष्टः परन्तप॥

evaṁ paramparā-prāptam imaṁ rājarṣhayo viduḥ sa kāleneha mahatā yogo naṣhṭaḥ parantapa

Translation

This, handed on down the line, the King-Sages knew. This yoga by great efflux of time decayed in the world, O Parantapa.

What it means

Handed down through the royal sages, this yoga decayed over long time as its custodians weakened. Even the highest knowledge erodes when the vessel is unfit; every generation must re-receive it.

Try this today

Teachings decay in transmission. What survives as ritual may have lost the living method.

Something to reflect on

What practice do I perform whose purpose I have never questioned?
