Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 5

Bhagavad Gita 5.2

संन्यासः कर्मयोगश्च निःश्रेयसकरावुभौ। तयोस्तु कर्मसंन्यासात्कर्मयोगो विशिष्यते॥

śhrī bhagavān uvācha sannyāsaḥ karma-yogaśh cha niḥśhreyasa-karāvubhau tayos tu karma-sannyāsāt karma-yogo viśhiṣhyate

Translation

The Blessed Lord said: Renunciation and yoga by action both lead to the highest bliss; of the two, yoga by action is verily better than renunciation of action.

What it means

Renunciation and the yoga of action both lead to the highest good, but the yoga of action is better than renunciation without knowledge. Sastri: renunciation accompanied by knowledge stands higher still; the comparison addresses renunciation bereft of it.

Try this today

Both paths work; for most people, engaged action without attachment beats withdrawal, because withdrawal without inner change is just relocation.

Something to reflect on

Am I tempted to withdraw when what I need is engagement with a cleaner motive?
