The Gita · Chapter 5

Bhagavad Gita 5.23

शक्नोतीहैव यः सोढुं प्राक्शरीरविमोक्षणात्। कामक्रोधोद्भवं वेगं स युक्तः स सुखी नरः॥

śhaknotīhaiva yaḥ soḍhuṁ prāk śharīra-vimokṣhaṇāt kāma-krodhodbhavaṁ vegaṁ sa yuktaḥ sa sukhī naraḥ

Translation

He who is able to endure here on earth, ere he be liberated from the body, the force born from desire and passion, he is harmonised, he is a happy man.

What it means

One who can withstand, here before leaving the body, the force of desire and anger, is harmonized and happy. The test is timed: now, in this life, under pressure. Withstanding the surge is itself the happiness.

Try this today

The defining athletic feat: holding steady in the moment the wave of urge hits. Happiness follows that capacity.

Something to reflect on

What is my proven technique for surviving an urge-wave?
