The Gita · Chapter 5

Bhagavad Gita 5.8

नैव किंचित्करोमीति युक्तो मन्येत तत्त्ववित्। पश्यन् श्रृणवन्स्पृशञ्जिघ्रन्नश्नन्गच्छन्स्वपन् श्वसन्॥

naiva kiṃcitkaromīti yukto manyeta tattvavit paśyan śrṛṇavanspṛśañjighrannaśnangacchansvapan śvasan

Translation

"I do not anything," should think the harmonised one, who knoweth the essence of things; seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, eating, moving, sleeping, breathing.

What it means

The harmonized knower thinks "I do nothing at all" while seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, eating, moving, sleeping, breathing. Every function continues; only the false claim of ownership stops.

Try this today

All bodily functions recognized as processes happening, not as personal doings. The actor-steps-out experiment, run all day.

Something to reflect on

What happens if I run the experiment: all day, functions happen, no 'I did it'?
