Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 6

Bhagavad Gita 6.18

यदा विनियतं चित्तमात्मन्येवावतिष्ठते। निःस्पृहः सर्वकामेभ्यो युक्त इत्युच्यते तदा॥

yadā viniyataṁ chittam ātmanyevāvatiṣhṭhate niḥspṛihaḥ sarva-kāmebhyo yukta ityuchyate tadā

Translation

When his subdued thought is fixed on the Self, free from longing after all desirable things, then it is said, "he is harmonised."

What it means

When the well-governed mind rests in the Self alone, free from craving for any object of desire, then one is called harmonized. The criterion is rest, not effort. Success in meditation feels like arriving, not striving.

Try this today

The settled state defined: thought at rest in its own ground, nothing pulling from outside.

Something to reflect on

What does my mind do when nothing pulls at it - rest, or search for a pull?
