The Gita · Chapter 6

Bhagavad Gita 6.36

असंयतात्मना योगो दुष्प्राप इति मे मतिः। वश्यात्मना तु यतता शक्योऽवाप्तुमुपायतः॥

asaṅyatātmanā yogo duṣhprāpa iti me matiḥ vaśhyātmanā tu yatatā śhakyo ’vāptum upāyataḥ

Translation

Yoga is hard to attain, methinks, by a self that is uncontrolled; but by the Self -controlled it is attainable by properly directed energy.

What it means

Yoga is hard for the uncontrolled self, but attainable by the self-controlled using the right means. Method plus self-governance is the formula. Effort is necessary; it is just not sufficient alone.

Try this today

The capacity statement: it is hard for the undisciplined and possible for the disciplined - the difference is method plus effort.

Something to reflect on

Where am I applying effort without method, or method without effort?
