Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 6

Bhagavad Gita 6.6

बन्धुरात्माऽऽत्मनस्तस्य येनात्मैवात्मना जितः। अनात्मनस्तु शत्रुत्वे वर्तेतात्मैव शत्रुवत्॥

bandhur ātmātmanas tasya yenātmaivātmanā jitaḥ anātmanas tu śhatrutve vartetātmaiva śhatru-vat

Translation

The Self is the friend of the self of him in whom the self by the Self is vanquished; but to the unsubdued self the Self verily becometh hostile as an enemy.

What it means

To one who has conquered the lower self by the Self, the Self is a friend; to the unconquered, it behaves like an enemy. The same inner reality opposes or assists depending on who is in charge.

Try this today

Same faculty, two relationships: the mastered mind serves; the unmastered mind opposes.

Something to reflect on

Is my mind currently my staff or my opposition?
