Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 7

Bhagavad Gita 7.12

ये चैव सात्त्विका भावा राजसास्तामसाश्च ये। मत्त एवेति तान्विद्धि नत्वहं तेषु ते मयि॥

ye chaiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasās tāmasāśh cha ye matta eveti tān viddhi na tvahaṁ teṣhu te mayi

Translation

The natures that are harmonious, active, slothful, these know as from Me; not I in them, but they in me.

What it means

Whatever states exist, harmonious, passionate or dull, know they arise from Me; yet I am not in them, they are in Me. The source contains its expressions without being contained by them. The screen is not in the movie.

Try this today

The three gunas originate from the divine but do not contain it - like waves and ocean.

Something to reflect on

Do I mistake my moods - calm, driven, dull - for the whole of what I am?
