Yathora

The Gita · Chapter 8

Bhagavad Gita 8.6

यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेवरम्। तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावितः॥

yaṁ yaṁ vāpi smaran bhāvaṁ tyajatyante kalevaram taṁ tam evaiti kaunteya sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ

Translation

Whosoever at the end abandoneth the body, thinking upon any being, to that being only he goeth, O Kaunteya, ever to that conformed in nature.

What it means

Whatever state one remembers on leaving the body, to that one goes, ever conformed to it. The law is general: the last content of consciousness steers the transition. We become what we have loved most.

Try this today

The general law behind it: you become what you habitually contemplate; the last thought just reveals the lifelong pattern.

Something to reflect on

What does my mind return to when nothing demands it?
